Biographical Information

The Jenner family Bible (handed down from Almond Lewis Jenner to Vivian Grace (Jenner) Pellman to Bob Pellman to Len Pellman) contains this notation:  "Stephen was the son of Samuel and his father Samuel was born on the pasage [sic] from England to America and his father [presumably Richard] died on the pasage [sic]."  The accounts concerning Richard Jenner found to date state that he died "in a foreign adventure", which could conceivably be "on the passage to America."  Further, the available accounts of Samuel Jenner I all indicate that he was "about 5 years old" upon arrival in America in the company of his recently widowed mother, Hannah Jenner, who remarried to John  Coe sometime prior to 1654.

Another Jenner family Bible was handed down from this Richard Jenner to his youngest son, Samuel Jenner I, to his grandson, Richard Jenner II, then to Richard's brother, Samuel Jenner III, and to his ?????, Samuel Jenner V, then to his ????? Abigail Jenner, to her ????? Moses J. Jenner (Asquahannock, NY), to his youngest son, Abram Jenner, to his daughter, Sarah (Jenner) Searing, to her daughter, Sarah (Searing) Deyoe, to her son, George Deyoe, and now to Diane Deyoe Shields.  Between the two accounts, it is possible to infer some of the missing details and be reasonably certain that Richard Jenner -- and not Capt. Thomas Jenner, as some sources suggest -- is the true father of the Samuel Jenner of this lineage.  This Bible also mentions the Coe and Hinman family linkages.

Most of Richard Jenner's life, however, must be inferred from other known facts.  For example, since Richard's widow, Hannah (Barrett) Jenner, remarried in 1653 and her son, Samuel was "about 5" at the time, we can estimate their marriage as having occurred around 1644 to allow for three children, her voyage to America, and her subsequent marriage to John Coe.  It also means he died around 1650.  By estimating Richard to have been 20 to 25 years of age at marriage, we can estimate his birth around 1620.
