Biographical Information

This connection is made based chiefly (as of May 20, 2008) on circumstantial evidence and should not be taken as absolutely certain.  There were a number of Hannah Parmelees in the early 18th century.

This Hannah Parmelee is a likely candidate to become Samuel Jenner's wife, because her family was closely associated with the Coe family for over 50 years.  Robert Coe married Stephen Parmelee's aunt, Barbara Parmelee around 1640, and Joseph Coe (Robert's great-grandson) married another Hannah Parmelee (born 1712, too young to be Samuel's wife) in 1737.  It therefore seems likely that this Hannah Parmelee would be long acquainted with the Jenner family and ultimately wed Samuel Jenner II.

Spelling was not a precise science in colonial times, so there are many variations of the Parmelee name:  Parmerly, Parmerlee, Permerly, Parmele, and Parmley are among the most common alternatives.  These spelling inconsistencies add to the difficulty of tracing a specific family member, as the same person may appear with different spellings in different records of that time (birth, marriage, and death records, deeds and titles, bills of sale, etc.).  "Parmelee" has been chosen for this record, as it is the spelling most commonly associated with this particular Hannah Parmelee.
